Organization Profile

Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit membership organization. For the past 130 years, the Chamber has been the voice of the business community for Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, while promoting a sound economy, reasonable tax rates, and advocating for investments in infrastructure that will ensure the community's long-term prosperity. Creating world-class K-12 schools is a key economic development strategy that is led by the Chamber. The Corporate Volunteers Program, an elementary reading initiative that matches business and community volunteers with kindergarten-2nd graders to support their early reading skills, while bridging the majority/minority gap for students, serves 15 of the school district's high-priority schools. The Senior Academy Program, a high school mentoring initiative which focuses on 6 area high schools, matches volunteer mentors from the business and greater community with 12th grade students who may be in jeopardy of dropping out of school. Volunteers provide one hour a week to their assigned student(s); the program year for each runs from the Fall through the Spring.
